Visually appealing e-learning is much more interesting to follow. However, this is often a challenge: how do you make e-learning visual if you are not a designer yourself?

Visually appealing e-learning is more engaging, but creating it can be challenging. Not a designer? Learn how to make your e-learning visual in this blog!

Did you know that Pluvo also has a podcast has? The Learning Innovators podcast answers all your questions about e-learning. A question we often get is: how do you make your e-learning visually appealing?

In a previous blog we already delved deeper into this, but today we'll discuss how you can use your corporate identity to make your e-learning even more visually appealing.

Prefer to listen? Then listen to our podcast on this topic. In the description for this podcast, you'll also find a list of all the software and websites we mention in this blog (and more).

First, the content

Of course, the content forms the basis of your e-learning. First, set up a good structure and clearly build your e-learning. Choose which learning goals you want your students to achieve and then create the content.

When creating the content, consider how you want to present it: in a video, a text, a question, or an infographic, for example.

By varying this, you will immediately create more variety and your e-learning will automatically become visually more attractive.

One step further

Do you have a corporate identity? Use this one! Most (larger) companies already have a corporate identity that is laid down in a corporate identity document.

For example, it explains which fonts are used for standard text, headlines, etc. as well as which colors (primary, secondary, tertiary) and which themes are used. The corporate identity document often also describes the tone of voice (you, your, family, business). So write your texts in this way too.

In addition, use the fonts and colors in your corporate identity. Are these not available in the Learning Management System? Then choose the font or color that fits best.

What is the best way to use colors?

The (corporate) website is often a good basis for choosing where to use which color. For example, are the headlines on the website all dark blue? So incorporate this style into your e-learning. Don't you have a corporate identity guide?

Then develop it first (choose colors and fonts) so that consistency is visible in your business communications such as your website and e-learning. Choose colors that are easy to read and do not blend together.

You can Color Contrast Checker use to check if you're in the right place when it comes to color contrast.

What about using photos and images?

It's important that the images you use match what you want to convey. For example, do you want to radiate professionalism? Then use photos that match this. Are you going for a playful look? Then consider using more color and playful elements.

You can use your own photos, but you can also use stock photos (for example, free photos can be found at Unsplash whether Freepik.com, Pixels.com). Make sure you don't use stock images too often and that they really fit your story and style.

For example, Pluvo always uses a blue filter over the (stock) photos that we use to make them clearly recognisable, we create this filter with Photoshop, but you can also PickMonkey use (free). This is how you create a single line and appearance in your photos.

Canva is also often used to create images and infographics in e-learning.

Infographics

Infographics are an important playful form of information that is ideal for integrating into your e-learning. You can choose static infographics (you can create them with Canva, for example) or interactive infographics.

You can create these with, for example Infogram or Google Infographics.

Animations

The next step in bringing infographics or theoretical concepts to life is to create animations. Powtoon.com (paid) is an extremely suitable tool for this.

Here you can create simple videos with a practical explanation, for example: use an infographic, add “people” with speech bubbles and bring your infographic to life!

Videos

If you choose to shoot videos yourself, choose a neutral background with no distractions (like a cat walking by or a book with a controversial title).

You can also get a green screen use (or a green blanket that you hang up, for sale for around 20 euro), adding the color/text elements of your own corporate identity to the background of the video later.

You can design the intro and outro of your video, as well as the texts you use in your video, in your own style. Prezi and Vimeo are ideal tools for recording and editing videos.

Consistency is key!

We hope these tips will help you create a visually appealing e-learning that clearly reflects your corporate identity.
