Until a year ago, it was still so normal: to gain knowledge with a group of fellow students in a room. Lecturer in front of the classroom, occasionally breaking up in a small subgroup to discuss a pressing issue at the same table.
Then came corona. Suddenly, it no longer seemed so obvious to all follow a training course in the same room.
For organisations that had already found the digital highway, talent development continued steadily, corona or no corona.
Others were empty-handed for a while anyway. They were not designed to bridge the distance.
After a brief moment of panic, more and more employers turned to companies that build online knowledge platforms, such as Pluvo.
The digital academies are now springing up like mushrooms. Is this a hype? Will all those knowledge platforms soon disappear at the same time as the corona? We don't think so! Here are just a few good reasons to build and keep an online academy:
A digital knowledge platform is easy to adapt. Are there new scientific insights that are at odds with the course material, or are certain employees now out of employment? One click on the button and you're up to date again.
The flexibility of the content has another important advantage. How nice is it to be able to take your employees directly into a change in production methods, or to tap into a new type of service?
Especially at a time when important ecological choices have to be made, reducing travel kilometers is an important consideration. That is definitely one of the advantages of online training.
But being able to log in to a training course conveniently from home or at work also costs a lot less travel time. It's better to spend those scarce, valuable hours on delivering production.
Or, of course, use it for qualitytime to recharge yourself. Because that's part of it too!

An online academy is super flexible. You can literally decide for each employee what learning path he or she follows, or what the onboarding program looks like. If it is a fast learner, the curriculum skips a few redundant chapters, or additional in-depth teaching material is added.
And why make the onboarding program for an HR manager the same as for the new production employee? Make it customised.
That's no problem with an online knowledge platform: you can mix and match the different modules very easily.
Does anyone have more trouble accessing the information, or is there a bit of a delay on the line due to personal or working conditions? That is no problem at all online. You can easily read back one or more lessons, repeat a filmed lesson indefinitely, or share useful tips with your colleagues.
See one online academy like a digital menu in a restaurant full of knowledge and news. Each customer can choose from a wide, varied range of products according to their own taste and needs. If you make that menu as attractive as possible, those customers will return again and again. Not because you have to, but because you can!
An online academy offers endless possibilities. You don't have to limit yourself to dry theory; a funny video about a specific topic, a pub quiz or a game where you can put what you've just learned into practice: it's all possible. And it immediately makes learning or familiarising a lot more fun.
Last but not least, we also want to highlight the more business side of an online academy.
Of course, it is very useful if you have an overview of the knowledge level of all your employees. Then you know exactly where there is still a need for knowledge, or which talent, with what motives you have at which location when a vacancy arises.
In short: talent management becomes a lot easier with a digital knowledge platform!
A knowledge platform therefore provides additional control information. It makes your employees future-proof and responds to individual information needs. Without wanting to preach to our own parish, we are therefore convinced that digital learning is here to stay.
So are there no disadvantages at all to setting up an online academy? Of course, it takes some time to invest. You have to build a foundation.
Now that doesn't have to be very complicated, there are all kinds of ready-to-use formats on the market. Information must be collected and written to be put online. However, that is often not so bad: over time, almost every company has already made a lot of information digital.
So in many cases it is a matter of harvesting and keeping track of all that low-hanging fruit.
Another “downside” may be the lack of live, personal contact. Solve that with blended learning: alternate online and live. Organise later, as soon as possible and allowed again, occasionally old school live lessons on location.
If we can give you another tip as a bouncer: record such a live training. Then you immediately have another addition to your knowledge platform!
